Saturday, March 03, 2007 NIGHT CYCLING 2007 Night cycling marks the end of ODAC activities for term 1 and we have to start studying for block test. We were supposed to rest after school so that we have the energy to do night-cycling but had to go out for my mum's birthday so didn't rest at all!! it had been 28 hours since i last slept if you don't count the 1 hour sleep during chem lecture xp So, night cycling!! i know this may be a model answer but each trip had been a different experience for us!! we had done one recee and one dry run and the route was almost similar. But each trip brings about new discoveries and adventures. I had expected the night cycling activity to be a monotonous one but it was full of events that caught us unprepared. We met up at 2100 plus to start off the activity. It was raining cats and dogs before the night itself and we were so scared that our efforts would go to waste if it were to be cancelled. Thank god it stopped raining already. Set off at around 2300 and we were divided into 3 different groups and moved off at 15 mins interval. Shall not go into the minor details and route though. Firstly, i led my group to a wrong way at around still road :/ so sorry!! then on the way, there were unexpected drivers and strange traffic!! the drivers would park in front of us and stop there, so we had to decide whether to overtake the cars. The traffic lights were weird also as it changed from green to red very fast and we don't have enough time to cross the road. Along the way, we were stopped by group 1 as joshua's bike broke down and miss tay had to give up her bike for him to continue. Had to "dismantle" the bike and fit it into mr liang's car before we can move off. The funniest thing happened at chomp chomp where we locked the bikes and found out that we don't have one of the keys to it. So, had to find ways to open the lock. Called the locksmith which cost us 100 bucks if we were to ask him to come and the lack of availability of services at gas stations. Therefore, had to call our friendly neighbourhood police to cut the lock for us!! Group 1 ended up going behind group 3!! Along the way there were some minor injuries and dangerous situations where we had to adapt to quickily. Surprisingly, i was not as tired as i was during the dry run and our group ended up getting high and alive when we reach the bike shop again!! Waving the light-sticks and singing songs before going to macs for breakfast and then debrief. The debrief by teachers so surprisingly short though even though so many things happened along the way (: it was really a very different and eventful experience that we had today; dealing with the situations that were thrown at us and un-noticingly enjoying the process to work out the situation. Okay!! it is now ODAC study break and i have to hit my books soon!! going out soon before going lester's house in the evening!! i promise i will start studying tomorrow!! really!!! i need it |
