Thursday, July 27, 2006 Service Learning Yesterday was a fun but tiring day. Went for service learning in the morning at Holland Aveune, a childcare centre. I left home at about 0730 when we were supposed to meet at 0830 but got caught in a jam which resulted in me being the last one to reach there at 0840. At first i thought it was going to be a relaxing and boring day but what turned out was the other way round. We went into the daycare centre and was divided into 2 different groups which was our 2 different physics classes. My group was in charge of playing with children from 2-5 years of age. We sang songs and played games like london bridge and simon says with them. They are all quite smart as they were able to follow our instructions closely. Time passes when we are having fun, in a blink of an eye was their lunch time and we had to seperate the children into different groups to play musical chairs. One of them even cried when he was pulled out of the game.. and miss tan was unable to comfort him as he cried even louder. The children were very active as we were all dead-tired after the games but they still had the energy to run about and "tau pok" us. We had a really fun but tiring day at the daycare centre and we hope to see them soon during national day celebration!! "Tau-Pok" by the little kids Our tired faces after the activities [Other Pics available at http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2103752514] Sentosa Beach Volleyball After service-learning, we went to Carl's Junior At PS to have a drink before going to Sentosa. We played "zhong ji mi ma" there and clint had to pay one dollars to buy us fries to eat. After that, wei hao, zi yi and i took NEL to Harbourfront station to meet up with the ODACers. It was not much of an ODAC activity but a ODAC outing instead. There were onli 13 ppl there including the task force. We went to Siloso Beach for beach volleyball and played there for around 3 hours. Strangely, all the ODACers did not know how to play volleyball as well as i expected. Thus, we managed to play 6 games instead of the proposed 3 games. After the activity and the de-briefing was the fun part. We went into the water and started "tau-pok-ing" ppl in the sand, making ourselves sandy. Went to bathe and change before going to the food junction at harbourfront shopping centre for dinner. A tiring but fun day.. reached home at around 2240. Our GP teacher muru had not come for one term already and we were so pissed off as all the classes got back their GP results about 1 week ago. What a surprise!! she actually came today and took away our break to give out the papers. After that i tink she went back to give birth to her baby again. She made us lose our onli break of the day. Luckily we bought brownies from maurice's class to eat during lecture ): So, a summary of common test results!! In order of grades -> Chemistry - B, General Paper - C, Physics - E, Mathematics - E. Have to work harder for promos... these grades are definitely not good. Anyway, juz something that happened on fri. We had inter-house netball competition on fri. Usually, netball is onli a girl kind of sport but in this competition, boys are allowed to participate. So, we went to play. The 1st match was a 3-2 loss to Gomes. We were leading 2-0 but after that went down 3-2. Our second match was against Venn which we won them 4-3 in a tightly contested game. Our third match was against Romanis which we were thrashed 5-0. A little more on this game, i was accidentally slapped in the face by a Romanis girl. They were playing like guys and maybe even more agresssive.... we tied 3-3 with Hose and thus didn't make it to the next round. After that, all the ODACers rushed in 3 cabs to first aid course. Haiz... as all of us were tired after the course which ended at around 10, we ate instant noodles for dinner that night ): i was like so hungry and in the end, i ate one cup at Beach Road and another back in Bishan. Hope the next first aid course would not be so torturous!!! Sunday, July 16, 2006 We were supposed to go for the concert at Padang today. However, something bad cropped up as i found out that Zhao Xiang was admitted to hospital because of a hole in the foodtrack. So, we decided that we should pay him a visit. We bought a photo frame for him with a picture of our class 08 on it. We met at Simei MRT station to go to Changi Hospital together. So, angelyn, lynette, cyn, yi xiang, melvin and i took a 10 mins walk to the hospital and went to his ward which was 47 and bed no. 5. It was quite weird seeing him lying on the bed in contrast to his cheerful and active character. The ppl around him were not of his age and were mainly made up of some old folks.. it was like an old folks' home. Xuan came to join us later as she rushed down in a cab. We spent most of the time there talking to him and asking him about the incident. Hope he recovers soon!!! Tuesday, July 11, 2006 yeah!!! finally after 2 weeks of "hard work" and stress, mids is over!!! with a disastrous result i would say. Juz summarising up wad we have for mids and wad we feel about the paper. 1st paper - GP. One word to describe it "murderous". Its juz all about crapping and writing down everything that we feel like writing. Results - unknown. Its hard to predict GP results as this is wad usually happens during language papers. However well and badly we may write, it all depends on the teacher. So, it all about luck. 2nd paper - Chemistry. Chemistry was relatively manageable for those who studied (obviously not talking about myself). My chem juz suck!! the 1 week of bonding wif chem was futile as the paper was not very well-done. Results - probably C or D. Next paper was Physics. The killer paper. Physics was taught by a very nice teacher, Miss Huang but i tink i would let her down this time. Physics was simply too tough for us to handle or rather for me. Out of the 20 MCQ we had to complete within half an hour, i guessed about 5 qns. Section B was also a killer; namely questions 3 and 4 if i am not wrong. I didn't even understand wad the question is asking. Results - hoping for an S. Today's last paper was Maths. Maths is my most confident subject so far. Juz hoping to get a B for maths. But the sad thing is, i already lost 12 marks for the paper... for not attempting 2 questions. There was a 7 mark question which was very tough and i left that blank ): Mids is finally over!! i shall relax for one week and start studying for promos the next week!!! a bad mid-year grade would definitely require a good final year grade for promotion to J2 Tuesday, July 04, 2006 Today is the start of the common test; 1st paper GP!!! one word to describe it "disastrous". We onli had like one practice on essay writing and one practice on comprehension. That's still alright!!! However, the problem is, muru haven even return us our one and onli practice. Perhaps she realli used our practices as diapers for her child already. Sorri to say this but i am realli pissed off by her irresponsibility. This is our common test!! It has a very high weightage of 30% for our promos. We simply can't afford to fail this!!! Anyway, wad happened today was that i took 15 mins staring at the 8 essay questions that we were given. In the end, i chose to do the question on development although i don quite know wad to write about. So, i ended up writing a whole essay full of crap and it was an amazing 1144 words. Didn't know i could crap so much. Paper 2 was a killer; i was like stunned when i first see the comprehension passage. It was about the state and the family. For the 1st half and hour, i onli did 2 questions and i was like shit, i don't have enough time to finish. So, i rushed through the other questions in a hope to complete it in time. In the end, i had too much time after i completed the summary question. So, i decided to spend the rest of my time on the AQ although i know i would get about 1 or 2 marks out of 5. Haiz.. first paper of the common test over and done with ): 3 more to go!! Saturday, July 01, 2006 Special Post - Cat High Homecoming 2006 Today is a very special day; cat high homecoming day 2006. Went to cat high early in the morning at around 0900. We told maurice to wear cat high uni but we didn't wear.. haha.. partly because we wanted to trick him and my uniform was missing from my wardrobe already. So, maurice and seng yong wore cat high uni to school while me, yong wei and lester simply wore home clothes. There were quite a lot of things to eat at the carnival today. Bought a 10 dollars coupon and started spending it on food... namely fried bee hoon, chicken wings, satay, cocktail, ice-cream and drinks.... the food was not bad, quite filling. Then, we went around looking at the different stalls that were set-up. A strange feeling dawn upon me when i enter cat high, somehow the school i once used to hate make me feel at home. As i walked along the pavement that leads to my class 4-4, my mind started to playback all the memories we had in cat high - both good ones and bad ones. Although now my ex-4-4 classroom was transformed into a sec 1 classroom 1-6, somehow i felt that this was still the classroom i belonged to. The times when we were having lessons and we were sleeping or playing in class. Walking further down the corridor where it always seem so noisy, we started to think back about how we used to see our good friend Yu Xuan sitting on the parapet outside the 4-9 classroom where he always treatened to jump down.... because of someone who is now known as Mrs Chua. The 4-9 classroom where we used to hangout during breaks seem so neat and tidy. The back of the classroom was exceptionally clean; the place where we used to kick the bottles as a replacement to soccer balls. To me, the funfair today was not of much importance. It was the memories we had back in cat high in the 4 years we spent there... Sorri if i said i don't like cat high last time, but i somehow changed my opinion today. The days in cat high were the most fun and entertaining days i had so far!!! The Assembly Ground My Classroom 4-4 Yu Xuan's Parapet |
